Gender Outreach and Advocacy [GENAD] Project |
|
Introduction
CLARION has implemented projects dealing with gender rights for many years. One of the most enduring of these projects is the Gender Rights and Empowerment Project, implemented for the last 12 years. GENAD builds on the achievements made through GREP by anchoring advocacy on issues related to the education of the girl-child.
The project which is being implemented in Teso and Kajiado districts, commenced with a fact-finding mission to the two districts. The subsequent community dialogue forums were based on the report of the fact finding mission. Working together with FIDA-Kenya, CLARION has also filed several court cases in situations where the rights of the girl-child (and the boy child as well, even though the project targets mainly girls) have been abused.
Overall objective The general objective of this intervention is to enhance the mainstreaming of gender in development. The intervention falls under CLARION’s Political Awareness and Outreach Programme.
Results The project will realise the following results: - Awareness on the factors inhibiting the education of the girl-child raised - Attitudes of community members towards education of the girl-child positively changed - Actions to enhance education of the girl-child instituted at the local level
